Often, we participate in the 'Mineral Show' in Japan 

every month and it usually takes time 

and effort to prepare it all.

  

We carry and show opal rocks, opal rubs,

Honestly, it is a hard work but when our buyer find something really special it is overwhelming and it makes us feel really proud & happy  ...

This boulder opal rock weights just over 10kg,

killing my back, when carrying it from Quilpie opal field (Queensland, Australia) to the Gold Coast office.

Now it's safely arrived in Japan,

And we find it really interesting with all enquiry, because, often, they will ask - 

"Can you cut down your opal loose to fit into my ring mounting?" or "Can you polish your opal's surface nice & flat so that it's easier for me to set into jewelry?" ... 

or even an enquiry like this "Can you re-cut your opal loose into a faceted style so it will shine more?"   

Our answers to all the above is "Yes"

We can cut down the size or shape, even get it faceted if it's really necessary ...

Re-polishing and re-cutting is possible 

as long as the opal is reasonably large and has thick color bars, and if the opal is natural.

Anything is possible!!

However, we strongly do not recommend anyone 

to go with that procedure.

Not only your opal will lose its carat size and values, 

it will also change and lose the original character 

as you polish down or touch its surface.

Making 'opal jewelry' is quite different to making

any other colored stone jewelries.

Since our opal collection is individually unique 

and precious, the color, size, shape and beauty is all completely different ... 

The design must be created to suit or fit into opal loose, 

not the other way around !!

Money can't replace its beauty ...

Opal is exactly the same !! Select carefully, by following these factors ... 

 

 

**   SOLID or FAKE   **

Make sure an opal you're about to select is

not Doublet or Triplet, even color treated or lab created.

If it's fully solid (100% natural) then it's quite special. 

 

 

 

**   VIVID or PALE  ** 

Does that opal has colors and lustures,

brilliancy or good impressions to you on your first sight?

The brightness and clarity of colors displayed by

opal from its surface is quite important.

 

 

 

**   UNIQUE or BORIING   **

When you turn or move opal -

does the color and its pattern changes,

reflects and dances at all? If the pattern is collectable

then the value of opal normally increases,

and when it shows some 'play of color' then sure it'll be

more fun to look at & to wear for many years to come!

**   CLEAN or SPOTTED   **

Always examine each piece of opal closely

because you don't want to purchase anything that has

deep scratches or cloudy spots or cracky quality opal.

In Australian 'boulder opal' (for instance),

the less brown ironstone showing on its surface,

the better & rarer it becomes.

 

 

 

**   BIG or SMALL   **

And of course, in anything ... I mean really 'anything' !!!

Is it BIG ENOUGH or a bit too small  (haha)

for you to enjoy??

If an opal is too small then its value can drop a bit,

the larger piece is always the better.

 

But if there's not much beauty or colors,

pick a smaller one with colors instead ♪♪
